Purchased in 2023 by Mike & Cathy Wilson, Emerald Acres Retreat is a 150+ acre Amherst Island property rich in history, located next to the ancestral Drumgoole family farm. The land was originally settled in the 1800s by Hugh and Minerva Drumgoole, who fled the Irish Potato Famine, and later became home to Mike Wilson’s grandfather, John Drumgoole.
Before Mike & Cathy purchased the property, it had been vacant for approximately 60 years, allowing nature to reclaim the old farm fields into small bird sanctuaries. A modern farmhouse is currently being built by Maas Homes, thoughtfully sited for southern exposure with stunning views of the bay toward Kingston, blending modern comfort with a deep respect for the land’s history. The property features diverse landscapes—including hardwood forests, cedar groves, open fields, and bird sanctuaries with over 100 species recorded to date—a bird watchers paradise!
Emerald Acres Retreat is an amazing opportunity for young families to visit and use the property and the island itself for things like going to the local beaches, biking, kayaking/canoeing, water power sports (bring your own), taking a farm tour, or simply spending time outdoors enjoying the nature that comes with the property like seeing white tailed deer, wild turkeys, foxes and coyotes - some forest therapy. In future, Mike & Cathy may look at hosting weekend special events, corporate retreats, and unique culinary experiences, including private meals with select wine pairings prepared by a Michelin Star Chef, providing an immersive island escape that celebrates both the land’s history and its natural beauty. The possibilities are endless…
